Have you always dreamed of going on a safari? Roaring through the bush on a game drive in a 4×4 jeep while the sun burns into your face and the dust of the dry savannah tickles your nose? Seeing the African vastness with your own eyes and, with a bit of luck, photographing the “Big Five ” – elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo – up close? And finishing the day, exhausted but happy, while relaxing in a comfortable lodge and enjoying a blood-red sunset over the seemingly endless plains of the African steppe?
But maybe you weren’t sure whether you should really go on a photo tour to Africa?
Safari in Tanzania – join me in Africa!
Well, NOW is exactly the right time! With me you have the unique opportunity to experience the fascination of Africa in a small group of like-minded people and improve your photography skills at the same time. Together with my new travel agency partner F.I.T. Sporturlaub GmbH, a family-run tour operator with a focus on authentic active travel and sustainability, I am once again organizing exclusive photography trips to Tanzania in February and September 2025 as one of a few tailor-made trips on this blog.
Tanzania is located in East Africa and is THE dream destination for photogenic safaris and unforgettable animal encounters. Moreover, there is no other African country where adventure and beach vacations can be combined as perfectly as in Tanzania. Just off the coast lies the dream island of Zanzibar, which will enchant you with its powder-white beaches and crystal-clear water. Following our photo safari, we will be happy to organize an individual extension in paradise for you! Alternatively, you can also plan a hike up Kilimanjaro or Mt Meru.
Tanzania photo safari – experience the fascination of Africa in a small group
When planning my photo tour to Tanzania, it was important to me to put together a tailor-made all-inclusive package that particularly caters to the needs of photographers. In order to guarantee the best possible support and a fantastic safari adventure, I have limited the number of participants to a maximum of 6 people. Of course, we will be traveling with two vehicles and two local driver-guides , so that everyone has enough space for their equipment and a guaranteed window seat in the jeep.
II will accompany you on this trip and share my photographic knowledge with you with heart and passion. In addition to an introductory lecture on the subject of “photography on safari” on the first day of the trip, I will be on hand every day to give you advice and support and help you with any technical queries and questions about image composition in wildlife photography.
Tanzania: Discover iconic wildlife & stunning landscapes
Of course, the focus will be on photographing Africa’s wildlife, but we will also discuss and try out the basics of landscape photography and, if you are interested, night sky photography. After all, there is hardly a more beautiful night sky than the one that spreads out over the African savannah!
You will also receive detailed packing lists and recommendations for the right camera equipment in advance and, of course, I will be happy to answer any other questions you may have about the trip. I have already photographed in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and of course Tanzania and acquired a great deal of knowledge about wildlife photography on these trips, which you can now benefit from on the photo trips through Tanzania!
NEW DATES 2025:
Great Migration South (9T/8N) February 23 to March 5, 2025 from € 4,999,- / US $ 5,199,- per person in a double room
Exclusive date Tanzania Southern Circuit (12T/11N) August 30 to September 12, 2025 from € 6,999,- / US $ 7,499,- per person in a double room
Great Migration North (12T/11N) September 13 to 26, 2025 from € 6,299,- / US $ 6,599,- per person in a double room
All the highlights in Tanzania – at a fair price!
Tanzania is definitely not a cheap destination. Expensive lodges, high national park fees and of course the costs for our two vehicles and the private guides have to be covered. However, I really must emphasize that we have managed to offer these photography tours at an extremely fair price by joining forces with our partners. I almost dare to bet that you won’t find a comparable offer with this level of individual support and such a high proportion of game drives with any other provider.
With our photo safari in September, we cover 4 of the major national parks in northern Tanzania and venture out on game drives in most of them not just once, but several times. On our Tanzania photo tour in September we also will spend a total of 5 nights in the Serengeti National Park, one of the most fascinating habitats on earth. This gives us the best chance of unforgettable encounters and breathtaking photos of Africa’s wildlife!
Stay in carefully selected lodges
The accommodations have been carefully selected with a view to sustainability and the involvement of the local population. During our Tanzania photo tour, we get more than once the opportunity to gain a deep insight into the culture and life of the local population, be it visiting an orphanage, spending the night in a Maasai-run lodge or shopping at the market.
All the lodges on this trip are of a very good standard and – with the exception of the camps in the Serengeti – even have a pool. Among other things, we will spend the night in permanently installed tented camps and thus really experience the wilderness up close. Believe me, there is no more fascinating and memorable experience than listening to the sounds and noises of the wilderness at night!
Further dates:
We also offer a shorter and significantly cheaper trip in February 2025 with a focus on wildlife photography in the southern Serengeti and the Ndutu Conservation Area. The price for this option (9 days/8 nights) starts from € 4,999 / US $ 5,199,-. If you are interested in this option, please write this in the registration form. You can download the itinerary for this trip here.
Furthermore, a new, exclusive photo trip in southern Tanzania is planned for September 2025. This includes the national parks Mikumi, Udzungwa Mountains, Ruaha and Nyerere (formerly Selous Game Reserve). As this is a special trip, a personal meeting by phone, Whatsapp or over a coffee in Vienna is mandatory before booking!
How much does the photo tour through Tanzania cost?
The price of my photo tour depends on the date and duration of the trip as well as the size of the group. We can also organize the trip with 4 participants, but then we have to add a small group surcharge of about € / US $ 800,- to 1000,- per participant (in 2 jeeps). In order to be able to offer a good price to photographers traveling alone, “shared double rooms” are available on request, i.e. two people of the same sex can share a room to avoid the single room surcharge! Depending on the trip, the single room supplement is a fair € 350 to € 650 (US $ 379 to 699,-).
An extension to Zanzibar following the photo safari is possible. The detour to paradise costs from US $ 750 per person in a double room for four nights with breakfast including all transfers and the domestic flight. If you are interested in this extension, please let me know in the comments field when booking!
It is important for me to emphasize that the final booking and payment will be made through my reliable travel agency partner based in Austria for legal reasons!
One date in February and two dates in September are planned for the 2025 season. To register, please fill out the booking form below. When booking, please select your room preference (single, double or shared double) and indicate the travel date February 2025, September 2025 (South) or September 2025 (North) in the comment field.
You can find out the exact itinerary and what is included in the price in the next section! For the February 2025 and the Southern Circuit trip, please request the detailed itinerary via e-mail!
Is there a cheaper alternative to the standard photo safari in September?
The price-performance ratio of my photo tour is very good compared to the competition. However, we do offer a shorter version in February 2025 as a cheaper alternative (see above). This is the month of the great migration in the south and it is “calving season”, i.e. wildebeest and zebras give birth to their young. Another advantage of this travel date is that off-road driving is permitted in the Ndutu Conservation Area , which opens up very special opportunities for photographers. If you are interested in this option, please send me an e-mail to request the detailed itinerary!

Photo tour Tanzania September 2025 (North): The itinerary in detail
(Legend: B= breakfast, L= lunch, D= dinner)
Day 1 (Saturday, September 13, 2025): Departure from your home country
Day 2 (Sunday, September 14, 2025): Transfer from the airport to the lodge – get settled in your rooms- leisure time at the pool. Before dinner I will give you a lecture about “Introduction to safari photography” and we will have a travel briefing with the local partner. Welcome and champagne reception with snacks & barbecue in the garden in the evening. (D).
Day 3 (Monday, September 15, 2025): Today will be really exciting as we head out on our first safari! To kick off our photo trip to Tanzania, we drive to the small but beautiful Arusha National Park. It is known for its scenic diversity and impressive views of the peaks of Mt. Meru and Kilimanjaro. As there are no lions in Arusha National Park, it is perfect for a walking safari on foot.
And that’s exactly what we do on our first day on safari. In the afternoon, we meet the ranger who will accompany us and set off on foot through the dense vegetation. We enjoy the views of the volcanic landscape of Meru and the impressive flora of the rainforest. With a bit of luck, we can admire and photograph impressive animals such as giraffes and elephants at close range. An absolutely unique experience.
Afterwards we will visit the Ngurdoto Crater and the Momella Lakes in the north-eastern part of the park before returning to the lodge later in the afternoon. (B,L,D)
Note regarding a change in the program compared to previous trips
On previous trips in 2019, 2022 and 2023 we visited Lake Manyara National Park. As the animal sightings there were not satisfactory in recent years, we decided to adapt the program and include the guided walking safari in Arusha National Park instead.
Day 4 (Tuesday, September 16, 2025): After breakfast, cameras at the ready, we head to Tarangire National Park, which is my personal secret favorite among the national parks in the north. Tarangire is particularly famous for its impressive bird population and huge herds of elephants, but lions are also frequently seen. Our guides grew up here and know the area like the back of their hand.
During our drive, they not only tell us lots of interesting facts about the country, its people, flora and fauna, but also help us spot the animals. In the evening, we drive back to our camp, where we round off the eventful day with a sundowner by the pool and discuss the first photos. (B,L,D)
Day 5 (Wednesday, September 17, 2025): Another safari in Tarangire National Park is on the agenda. Our camp is only a few minutes away from the park entrance, so we set off early to make the most of the warm morning light to take some impressive photos. We are drawn to the south of the park, where the chances of encountering lions, leopards and perhaps even the shy cheetahs are particularly high! We return to our camp after sunset and enjoy a 3-course dinner. (B,L,D)
Impressions from Tarangire National Park February & September 2022 and September 2023
Days 6-10 (Thursday, September 18 to Tuesday, September 23, 2025): A special day awaits us, because after breakfast we set off into the endless savannahs of the world-famous Serengeti National Park. Serengeti means “endless plains” in the Maasai language and when we reach the first foothills of this fascinating ecosystem, we immediately understand why.
As far as the eye can see, all we see are endless savannahs, an occasional tree or rock and, of course, the animals that live here. The Serengeti is one of the most fascinating areas on our planet and home to countless wild animals. I promise you, from now on this photo tour will be like something out of a picture book.
Wildebeest, zebras, antelopes and buffalo can be found here and with them come the big hunters such as lions and leopards. The endless plains also offer the perfect hunting conditions for the fastest mammal on earth, the cheetah. Our drivers know the best spots and give their all to provide us with unforgettable moments and breathtaking photo opportunities.
Our cameras rattle every second as we try to capture this incomprehensible beauty in our pictures. Tired but happy and with full memory cards, we return to camp in the evening and toast to our experience with a delicious cocktail before enjoying a magnificent view over the vast landscapes of the Serengeti from our comfortable tents. (5x B,L,D)
Mara River Crossing in the Serengeti – experience it live!
This unique natural phenomenon, when thousands of wildebeest and zebras cross the Mara River on their way from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara in Kenya and back, can normally only be booked and photographed for a very high price.
But because the big migration in Africa is probably on every nature photographer’s bucket list, I definitely wanted to include it in the new edition of the trip.
In September, the great migration, when huge herds of wildebeest and zebra set off in search of food, is in full swing. The safari is planned so that, with a bit of luck, we can observe and photograph the herds crossing the Mara River! It is not without reason that the Mara River Crossing is considered one of the greatest natural spectacles on earth. At the Mara River we witness how the wildebeest plunge death-defyingly into the floods, where huge crocodiles are just waiting to fill their bellies..
And once the animals have made it to the other bank exhausted, the drama is far from over! Because now the big cats, famished after the long dry season, are waiting for their chance. Believe me, there is no better way to capture the drama of the struggle for survival than during this time of the year around the Mara River.
The great migration on the Mara River: The location of the lodge is the key to great photos!
A trip to the Mara River Crossing only makes sense if you stay overnight where the event takes place, so that you can be flexible and act at short notice. Our camp is strategically located in the northern Serengeti, just a short drive from the Mara River, which guarantees us every opportunity and, above all, an optimal position for observing this natural spectacle. We spend a total of 5 nights in the natural paradise of the Serengeti, 3 nights of which are spent in the north near the Mara River. Crossing the Serengeti twice from south to north and vice versa, will provide us with countless fantastic photo opportunities and unique encounters.
We travel completely independently and individually in our private jeeps and can organize our game drives in consultation with the driver guide as we please!
More impressions from the Serengeti
Day 11 (Tuesday, September 23, 2025): Another adventurous day lies ahead of us. We get up early and leave the camp after a delicious breakfast, heading in the direction of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Due to the newly scheduled extra day and the overnight stay on the crater rim, we can still use the morning for an extensive game drive in the central Serengeti. After lunch, we slowly make our way towards the Ngorongoro Crater, where we check into our lodge at 2,200 m above sea level in the late afternoon. (B,L,D)
Day 12 (Wednesday, September 24, 2025): Due to the strategically favorable location of our lodge, we can drive into the crater very early and take advantage of the wonderful morning light for our photos. We can also spend the whole day in the crater and devote ourselves to game viewing and photography without stress.
The Ngorongoro Crater is considered one of the most fascinating ecosystems in the world. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 and is often referred to as the eighth wonder of the world. A kind of “Garden of Eden” in the middle of Africa. The crater of a non-active volcano, is home to one of the densest populations of wild animals in the world. Elephants, rhinos, lions and leopards all live here in a very small space, which is why the crater is often referred to as the “most beautiful zoo in the world”. (B,L,D)
Further impressions from the Ngorongoro Crater
The huge number of wild animals and the fascinating landscape at the foot of the impressive crater walls make this safari a very special experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives. In the late afternoon we leave this paradise on earth with a heavy heart and make our way to our accommodation for the night. (B,L,D)
Day 13 (Thursday, September 25, 2025): Transfer to the airport and departure to Europe or extension to Zanzibar. (B)
Tag 14 (Friday, September 26, 2025.): Arrival in your home country

Impressions from Tanzania in a video (preparation trip January/February 2022)
Would you like to know what awaits you on site in Tanzania? Then take a look at this video of the Tanzania photo tour. It was made during my preparation trip in February 2022 and includes scenes from the safaris in Tarangire, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater.
What are the requirements for taking part in the Tanzania photo tour?
My photo tour is aimed at advanced photographers, but also beginners who would like to learn and improve their skills within a group of like-minded people. Of course, “non-photographers” or accompanying persons who simply want to enjoy the fascinating wildlife are also very welcome! Nevertheless, photography is of course the main focus. To get the most out of the trip, I recommend the following equipment:
- A camera that allows manual settings (shutter speed, aperture, ISO)
- A telephoto lens with a focal length of at least 300 mm or more (the more, the better!)
- A wide-angle lens for landscape photography with a focal length range of approx. 11-16 mm (APS-C) or 14-24 mm (full-frame). (the faster, the better because of the night sky photography)
- possibly a standard zoom with a focal length range of approx. 16-85 mm (APS-C) or 24-120 mm (full-frame)
- Alternatively for APS-C cameras: a travel zoom with a focal length of approx. 18-300 mm
- Lens hoods for all lenses
- UV filters for all lenses to protect them against dust
- A cleaning kit with bellows, brush and cleaning cloths
- A tripod for night sky and Milky Way photography
- At least one spare battery, preferably two (this is especially important for users of mirrorless cameras with electronic viewfinders!)
- A bean bag to put the camera in the car during the safari (can be filled on site)
- Polarizing filter for the wide-angle lens
- possibly a gradient ND-filter for sunrise/sunsets
- A remote shutter release for long exposures
- A power bank
- sufficient memory cards (I recommend 32GB, 64GB and/or 128GB)
- A sturdy camera bag or backpack
- A large microfiber cloth to wrap the camera in during game drives
Do you have any questions?
If you are not sure whether your camera is sufficient or whether you have enough experience, please feel free to contact me. However, I can assure you that this trip is all about having fun and enjoying photography and that I will do my best to meet each participant at their current level of development and support them accordingly! In my experience, the exchange with like-minded people also has an extremely positive effect on photographic development, which is also a reason for the small group size! This positive effect would probably be lost in a larger group!
Participants’ comments on the Tanzania photo tour (more in the comments)
“Imprintmytravel, in cooperation with the local contact Fairaiway, has put together a great travel package.
As a beginner in the techniques of photography, away from the automatic programs, I always had an attentive contact person in Imprintmytravel. Both before, during and after the trip, Lisa was always happy to provide me with practical tips and assistance.
